As many of you know, 12 years ago this July I made a choice to take my life in a direction that I felt would bless me and my future family. That choice was to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The man leading the church at that time was Gordon B Hinckley. He was 86 when I joined the church yet he had vitality and vigor of a 50 year old. I was constantly amazed, but more amazing than his age was the inspiration he gave me to be a better man, a better husband, a better father, a better son. He passed away last Sunday at the age of 97.
One of his first quotes that stuck with me was " Let us all try to stand a little taller, rise a lilttle higher, be a little better. Make the extra effort. You will be happier. You will know new satisfaction. A new gladness in your heart"
So I am trying to do just that and when I do a new gladness and satisfaction is found. He was a man that always wanted to see everybody, all of God's children, to reach their divine potential.
One thing about him was his disliking to fly. Despite it, he amazingly, in those 13 years as President of the church, traveled over 1 million miles to bring his message and inspiration to the members of the church, kings, presidents, and other head of states
So I found this slideshow that really caused me to deeply reflect upon his life as I knew him for the past 12 years.
I think all would agree that there are GREAT men and woman that are in our laboratories of life that cause us to move upward and move onward with a greater faith in our abilites to reach our potential. For me, Gordon B Hinckley was one of those men.
Until we meet again President Hinckley
